Finding moments of pause and solitude during the holiday season

ree

The holidays are in full swing and finding quiet moments to ground yourself are far and few between. Being intentional about this time will bring you peace and solitude as you make your way through the holidays.

It takes patience and quiet to turn our attention inward and reconnect to ourselves. We are strengthened in our own sense of identity when we allow ourselves the space to collect and gather our thoughts and emotions. Learning to fully declutter our minds has to be deliberate which means we need to be away from our phones for a while and silence the text messages, news alerts or emails.

Heading outside for a walk in nature is one way to find time for self-reflection. Another way may be just a few minutes of silence. I think I've shared in previous posts, I used to turn the lights off in my operatory and tilt my chair back during lunch. It's amazing what a few minutes can do to calm your mind. Letting our minds wander without an agenda gives us time to listen to our body and reflect on our feelings and thoughts. Art is another way that we can connect with ourselves.

As we take more moments of pause and solitude, we become better attuned to our own inner signals and vibrations. This attuement helps us feel grounded and centered not only with ourselves, but with how we show up to other people.

Finding moments of "awe" deepens our connection with the things around us and brings about feelings of gratitude and love. Technology and work can easily take over and crowd out time to connect with ourselves and more meaningful things.

Reaching out to others from a place of solitude and compassion will bring you and yours deeper, higher quality relatioships.
